How one ambitious garage owner turned a relocation into a workshop designed for long-term growth

By autotech-nath on September 9, 2026

Deano’s Garage has earned a strong local reputation for honest advice, quality workmanship and a customer- first approach. For 27-year-old owner Dean, technical ability matters, but so does communication. Customers are given clear explanations, itemised invoices and straightforward advice. “If something doesn’t need doing, we’ll tell them,” he explains. “If people trust us, they’ll come back, and they’ll recommend us.”

Seeing opportunity in change...

When the chance came to relocate into larger premises, Dean saw an opportunity to rethink the operation from the ground up. Demand for MOT testing was growing, and increasing capacity had become a priority. However, Dean wanted more than simply another lift. “This wasn’t just about today,” he says. “We wanted to build something that would still be working for us years down the line.”

Dean had already known Stephen Ellis, Hofmann Megaplan’s MOT Specialist, for some time and rather than starting with equipment specifications, the conversation focused on Dean’s ambitions, the number of MOTs the workshop needed to handle each day and how the available space could be used more effectively.

“Dean already had a clear vision of where he wanted to take the business,” says Stephen. “Our role was to help turn that vision into a practical workshop layout that would maximise the available space and support his future plans.”

A key decision was to reposition the existing two-post lift as part of a wider redesign. It was a relatively small change, but one that improved vehicle movement, made better use of the available floor area and helped create the capacity Dean was looking for.

Investing for the long term...

With the layout agreed, attention turned to equipment. Dean’s focus was not on the lowest-cost option, but on reliability, build quality and long-term performance. A premium European- manufactured Cascos ATL lift was selected as the foundation of the new MOT bay. “When you’re relying on equipment every single day, you want confidence that it’s going to perform,” says Dean.

From groundworks through to commissioning, the project was completed in around three weeks. The concrete base was carefully prepared and left to cure before installation, giving the MOT lane the foundations required for years of reliable service.

More than an MOT Bay...

The finished installation has given Deano’s Garage the ability to complete up to fourteen MOT tests each day and created a more efficient working environment. More importantly, it has given the business room to keep growing. For Hofmann Megaplan, the project demonstrates that supplying workshop equipment is only part of the job. Understanding a customer’s ambitions, designing around their workflow and supporting their future plans is what creates lasting partnerships.

For Dean, the new workshop is not the end of the story. Ideas are already being discussed for the next phase
of expansion. “We’ve got plenty more ideas,” he smiles. “We’re only just getting started.” https://hofmann-megaplan.co.uk/
