MOT career route

By autotech-nic on November 25, 2015

Becoming an MOT Tester is set to become a recognised career option as the DVSA works towards setting an official training route, with the help of industry partners.

Candidates in the near future will need to gain an industry-recognised qualification drawn from standards defined by the MOT sector, raising the profile of the individual, employer and the industry as a whole. The DVSA is also looking to replace MOT refresher training with CPD for testers.

The Retail Motor Industry Federation (RMI), a not-for-profit trade body representing franchise and independent garages, is helping to drive this change, opening a new training centre in the Midlands next Spring which will act as a leading industry resource for MOT tester training.

RMI Directors Stuart James and Sue Robinson, who represent both franchise and independent garages, commented:

“With important changes coming for the way MOT testers are trained, the centre will become a vital resource for garage businesses and will ensure that our members are in pole position to react to shortages of testers.”
