Demand for Saturday MOT cover is increasing ahead of the autumn testing peak, with Autotech Recruit reporting new opportunities for qualified MOT testers looking to take on additional weekend work.
The contractor recruitment specialist says demand remains strong across the automotive sector. Over the last two months, 100% of new contractors who registered with Autotech Recruit and were available for work secured assignments, highlighting the continued need for skilled and flexible resource.
While MOT testing opportunities are available throughout the week, the company is seeing a particular increase in requests for Saturday cover as workshops prepare for the traditionally busy September and October period.
Latest DVSA figures show that 42.5 million MOT tests were overseen in 2025/26, up slightly year-on-year, while the UK vehicle parc continues to grow. As testing demand increases during autumn, qualified testers with weekend availability could be well placed to secure additional work.
“We've seen incredibly strong demand for contractors over the last couple of months, with every newly registered contractor who was available for work finding an assignment,” says Samantha Toye, National Account Manager at Autotech Recruit.
“Now we're seeing an increasing number of requests specifically for Saturday MOT cover. For MOT testers, that creates another way to take advantage of a particularly busy period without necessarily changing how they work during the week.”
She adds: “Workshops are actively looking at Saturdays to increase testing capacity, which means qualified testers with weekend availability could find their skills particularly sought after.”
For workshops, contractors provide access to qualified resource when demand increases, while for testers, Saturday assignments offer flexibility to fit additional work around existing commitments.
With more than 16 years' experience in automotive contractor recruitment, Autotech Recruit has an established network of qualified vehicle technicians and MOT testers across the UK.
