Understanding the Right Oil for Your Workshop

By autotech-nic on December 15, 2022

Castrol and The Race Group are proud sponsors of The Blend, but unfortunately, due to the Queen’s passing, Castrol were unable to attend the annual conference back in June, in person.

In modern automotive, all garages are tasked with correct oil selection, this becomes challenging and particularly frustrating, with various oil grades and a broad range of ACEA’s, from low SAPS to mid SAPS, fuel efficient to non-fuel efficient – we find a regularly asked question in many social communities or forums “how do I know if I am selecting the right oil, for the right car?”

Castrol’s Simon Gurney was keen to deliver the training content for this particular matter, and a few weeks later, did just that via a webinar to the Garage Hive community, powered by The Blend.

Over a 45 min session, Castrol & The Race Group delivered a technical seminar, covering:

Understanding the Carparc trends
• How the Carparc looks, what this means for the independent workshop.

Reason for so many oils
• OEM driving dedicated oils to meet performance and environmental requirements.

Right Oil Right Car
• How does this look by OEM, Castrol’s OEM relationship and they Co- Engineer
• What does this mean for the workshop?
• How Castrol & Race support workshops to fit the right oils.

Electric Vehicles
• EVs still need fluids
• EV motor types
• Castrol’s strength in the driveline, relationships with OEMs
• EV Thermal fluid for batteries
• BP’s investment in the UK Technology centre as BP’s global battery test centre.

Michelle Rice, IWS – General manager – UK & France for The Race Group Part of Certas Energy, said “The interpretation of oil data used in the workshops often leads to incorrect or non-approved specification oil fitted without realising it. Workshops need to be supported by their supplier and oil brand to ensure they have the complete training and back up should anything go wrong.
“This year we’ve supported two members of our Castrol Service network when their customers experienced engine failure, because the workshop provided Castrol Guarantee to their customers, Castrol carried out a full investigation and supported the consumer with the evidence to claim the repaired directly with the car manufactures as the workshop had fitted the right Castrol oil”.

The Race Group, part of Certas Energy, are Castrol’s Ambassador distributor partner in the UK, supporting independent workshops with more than just a litre of oil, with a consultative approach you can access technical support, an oil survey, workshop equipment, improve oil efficiency and we give you the knowledge to ensure you fit the right oil every time.
